Be the performer you dream to be in a dramatic summer with HTY

Our summer programs focus on the creative development of our young participants. We desire to provide both a professional and engaging experience throughout the summer that ends with an entertaining performance and we are most dedicated to cultivating the individual artist in each of the young participants. We build their skill with and understanding of theatre by guiding them to create original scenes and plays. We want them to not only memorize dialogue, but create original characters and dialogue that truly makes the performance a reflection of their creativity.

SUMMER DRAMA ADVENTURE

Into the Great Unknown

Summer Quest for Curious Minds!

AGES 7 – 9

Your Objective: To imagine, explore, and create.

Are you ready to solve the world’s wildest mysteries?

Why did the Hippo lose its hair?

How did the Rabbit’s tail vanish?

Why the Frog Croaks at the Rain?

And what’s the secret behind the Sun’s slow trek across the sky?

This summer, you become a theatrical explorer. We’ll dive deep into global folktales, trekking through ancient stories, and devising our own epic retellings. It’s a hands-on adventure where we don’t just read the answers—we invent them on stage!

The Explorer’s Toolkit:

  • Confidence to Lead: Conquer the stage and find your “champion voice.”
  • Creative Survival Skills: Use pure imagination to build new worlds and solve dramatic puzzles.
  • The Power of the Crew: Master the art of collaboration as we work together to create a brand-new play from age old stories.

Join the summer adventure and ask “Why?”

‘TWEEN SCENE

All Hands on Deck: A Summer of Sea Stories!

AGES 10 – 13

Come sail away with us this summer where you’re the Captain! Forget just listening to tales of Vikings and Pirates; this summer, you’re taking the helm and charting a course as sailors, voyagers, and explorers who crossed vast oceans and followed the stars. We’ll dive headfirst into a world of crashing waves and legendary voyagers to explore “What if…?”

In this high-energy theatre program, you and your crew will build original adventures.

  • What if a massive kraken is actually just lonely and wants to join the crew
  • What if the ship’s compass starts pointing to a land made entirely of candy?
  • What if the legendary Viking warriors realize they’ve forgotten how to sail?

You’ll learn the ropes of bold stagecraft, sharpen your improv skills, and navigate choppy creative waters to create scenes the world has never seen.

We hope you’ll cast off with us for a summer full of high-seas storytelling and nautical fun!

For Summer Drama Adventure & ‘Tween Scene, each program day will be divided into two parts:

Whole group activities for skill building
Activities that build body and voice expression as well as performative skills. We will play improvisational games and explore how to use space. All you need to bring is a willingness to try new things, step out of your comfort zone sometimes and take creative risks. Be ready to work with new friends and to share and embrace ideas.

Small Group Story Building
Small teams will work together on creating story scenes using the skills they’ve been developing.

Imagining the story. The team members will create action and blocking and even write their own dialog!

The summer will culminate in a performance where each group performs their own scene to help tell the story. The heart of the program is on the creative process and creativity building.
