Our summer programs focus on the creative development of our young participants. We desire to provide both a professional and engaging experience throughout the summer that ends with an entertaining performance and we are most dedicated to cultivating the individual artist in each of the young participants. We build their skill with and understanding of theatre by guiding them to create original scenes and plays. We want them to not only memorize dialogue, but create original characters and dialogue that truly makes the performance a reflection of their creativity.

FAB FABLES! Keeping it classy -er- classic!

Fun familiar tales from oh, so long ago.
Coming now to life freshly as we perform them in a show!

Announcing the fabulous, the famous, the fantastic fables we know and love. From ‘The Boy who Cried Wolf’ to ‘Goldilocks,’ come be a creative collaborator as we explore some of our favorite fables – staying true to the classic tales, while adding tantalizing twists of our own! Together we will imagine the world of our stories, create our dialog and action, design our simple costumes, and bring our awesome characters to life as we build our performance! It’s a Summer Drama Adventure, HTY style!

For Children ages 10-13

The Clash of the Characters!

What happens when characters from one story get together with characters from a whole different tale? A Mixed Up New Venture, that’s what! This summer ‘Tween Scene will create original stories with familiar, and maybe not-so-familiar, characters. What if Snow White went on an adventure with Momotaro, the Peach Boy, or if Anansi the Spider joined Jack in his climb up the beanstalk? What if The Monkey King crashed the Ball instead of Cinderella? Grab a character and mix-it-up!

Join us this summer for ‘Tween scenes, The Clash of the Characters, where YOU imagine, create and perform a whole new legendary experience!

Each drama day will be divided into two parts:

Whole group activities for skill building
Activities that build body and voice expression as well as performative skills. We will play improvisational games and explore how to use space. All you need bring is a willingness to try new things, step out of your comfort zone sometimes and take creative risks. Be ready to work with new friends and to share and embrace ideas.

Small Group Story Building
Small teams will work together on creating story scenes using the skills they’ve been developing.

Imagining the story. The team members will create action and blocking and even write their own dialog!

The summer will culminate in a performance where each group performs their own scene to help tell the story. The heart of the program is on the creative process and creativity building.
